Bird Songs
Eastern/Central U.S.
Peterson Field Guide Series
Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology & Interactive Audio;
Roger Tory Peterson
This tape/CD set was made to accompany the Roger Tory
Peterson classic birding field guide, A Field Guide to
the Birds East of the Rockies (fifth edition). It differs from the Birding by Ear
series in
that it follows the order of the Peterson field guide, covering 267 species, grouped by
family. The name of each bird is announced, followed by its song and
call, without any instructional narrative. The
accompanying booklet lists each bird’s location on the CD, its
Field Guide page number (matching the new fifth edition), and the geographical location where it was recorded.
Total playing time 74 minutes.

Birding
by Ear: Eastern/Central
A Guide to Bird Song Identification (revised)
Richard K. Walton & Robert W. Lawson

learning bird songs. Instead of merely providing a catalog of bird
song samples, Birding by Ear group the birds on the recording

characteristics, and easy tips on how to remember songs and calls.
Groupings include "name-sayers" (i.e. chickadee, whip-poor-whill),
"sing-songers" or the robin sound-alikes, "mimics,"
and "high-pitchers." 2 compact discs + 64-page booklet.
