Bird Houses and Bat Boxes
by Coveside Conservation Some 85 species of North American birds excavate nesting
holes, use cavities resulting from decay (natural cavities), or use holes
created by other species in dead or deteriorating trees. In the past
dead trees were often eliminated from the forest during a timber harvest. As
a result, in some areas few nesting sites were left for cavity-nesting
birds. Natural nest holes may be in
short supply for breeding populations of at least some species. Bird houses
have been readily accepted by many natural cavity nesters, and increases in
breeding density have resulted from providing nest boxes.
Coveside Conservation products are
well known for building functional and long-lasting bird houses.
Designed for each species by experts, these boxes provide the
correct dimensions, materials, ventilation and drainage.
Each is hand-crafted in Maine from Eastern White Pine, and
includes a brochure that describes the species and proper
placement of the box. |
